As expected, US operator Verizon Wireless announced the launch of its mobile TV service based on the Qualcomm MediaFLO platform on Monday.
At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Verizon’s new president and chief operating officer, Denny Strigl, unveiled the V CAST Mobile TV offering, which will launch within the next couple of months.
Parent company Verizon Telecom also lifted the curtain on a forthcoming fixed line offering at the show, FiOS TV, which is also expected to launch this quarter.
FiOS – a fibre to the premises (FTTP) platform – will provide individual homes and businesses in 16 states with up to 50Mbps broadband, backed up by IPTV offerings.
