In its simplest form, the integrity of a person is shown through their actions when no one else is looking. A person’s true character is a reflection of every action taken or word spoken on a daily basis. It is my belief that doing “the right thing” both professionally and personally allows both agencies and individuals the best opportunity to fully maximize potential and to be successful.
As a health care field clinician, I have seen how easy it can be for staff to view all patients the same; as if all patients have identical needs and wants. I believe it takes professional integrity to have the desire to provide care or service that genuinely individualizes client needs. One of my favorite quotes by John Keats depicts a more personal look at the precious lives of others in a desire to preserve the quality and dignity of life, “A thing of beauty is a joy forever: Its loveliness increases; it will never pass into nothingness.” This quote encompasses, in its simplicity, an outlook on the ideal version of optimal health care and services. Individual and organizational excellence embraces personal emotions and, in my opinion, should strive to meet this standard of integrity.
