Handset vendor Sony Ericsson has reported its third consecutive profitable quarter, benefitting from the same magical healing powers of Android as Motorola. The firm turned in €49m in profit in the third quarter, compared to a net loss of €164m in the same period last year.
The company shipped around 10.4 million units during the quarter, a decrease from 11 million in the previous quarter and 14.1 million in the same period last year. Sales were almost flat year on year at €1.6bn, while the average selling price was up at €154 for the quarter compared to €114 a year ago.
Bert Nordberg, president and CEO of Sony Ericsson, said: “Our strategy to focus on the smartphone segment is succeeding and smartphones now comprise more than 50 per cent of our total sales.”
