WiMAX and 4G chipmaker Sequans has launched an initiative geared towards streamlining 4G network transition and future-proofing 4G devices for LTE and WiMAX operators. The initiative, called “4Sight”, is offering solutions to some of the technical challenges facing operators looking to deploy 4G networks.
Components of 4Sight include an integrated dual 4G broadband processor that supports both WiMAX and LTE, comprehensive dual-4G reference designs for a variety of devices and multi-mode handover technologies, including dual standby operation.
Sequans VP for marketing and business development, Craig Miller, said that this latter feature is a foundation of the firm’s interoperability maturity that will play a key role in their WiMAX and LTE strategy going forward. Dual-4G devices can be designed and certified once and deployed anywhere in an operators network, regardless of their coverage status. Multi-mode and multi-band solutions will allow mobile broadband operators to take advantage of both WiMAX and LTE technologies injecting an element of flexibility into strategies and eliminating some of the guesswork in terms of network technology selection.
