UK mobile operator O2 is to give away fixed line home broadband ‘free’ with its wireless broadband package.

Subscribers to the O2 Broadband Home and Away deal will get fixed line broadband free for a year when they sign up to O2’s Mobile Broadband package for £20 per month.

O2 claims mobile broadband speeds will reach up to 3.6Mbps, and users get 3GB of cellular data and unlimited wifi. Fixed line speeds are up to 8Mbps, with access available to around 60 per cent of the UK population.

In another announcement, O2 has started selling a Home Broadband Takeaway package in stores. For a one off charge of £30, customers can pick up a box which includes a wireless router and all the kit required to get online, although this money will be credited to the customer’s first bill.
