Norwegian rock band Turbonegro has become the country’s first band to release a single exclusively for mobile phones.
The song “Do You Do You Dig Destruction?” is taken from Turbonegro’s forthcoming album and is available from Norwegian operator Telenor’s djuice portal in partnership with Universal Music.
The can be downloaded for free until the end of April to a phone and PC, allows users to make a CD copy and transfer it to other MP3 players.
“2006 was the year music on mobile phones really took off in Norway. Telenor customers downloaded more than 1 million songs, and almost as many music mobiles were sold in Norway. We see that this success is continuing in 2007,” said Jon Erik Haug, director for consumer mobile at Telenor.
Some artists have experienced considerable success with mobile music releases in the past. Around this time last year, history was made in the UK when ‘Crazy’ – a song by Gnarls Barkley – became the country’s first number one based on download sales alone.
