Mobile giant Nokia has announced that it is to cut 700 jobs globally, in an effort to “balance” its business.

The shake up will take place, according to the Finish firm, over the next few months. Nokia said the move was important to improve the focus and efficiency of some of its R&D and related sales and marketing activities and internal IT operations.

Nokia said cuts will primarily affect its loss-making enterprise solutions group where 360 jobs will go as it looks to “sharpen its focus on markets where there is greater return on investment”.A further 130 jobs are to go in the company’s own IT organisation as part of the drive for increased efficiency.

In a statement Nokia said the staff cuts, of which 340 will be in Finland, do not necessarily mean those affected will leave the company as, wherever possible, it aims to redeploy them into new positions.
