Alcatel-Lucent has introduced its new FP3 network processor chip, capable of supporting transmission speeds of up to 400 Gbps.

The new chip is expected to eliminate the current network bottlenecks which hinder access to bandwidth-intensive services, applications and content such as high-definition video conferencing, whilst cutting power consumption by up to 50%.

The FP3 processor is expected to become commercially available in 2012, and will be at the heart of Alcatel-Lucent’s high-performance IP service routing portfolio, from metro to edge to the core of its High Leverage Network architecture.
