The media behemoth News Corp. on Sunday announced a deal with the world’s biggest mobile phone operator, China Mobile, to provide a wireless music service.
The proposed service will provide China Mobile customers with a wireless download service for exchanging user-created tunes.
The Asian broadcasting firms Channel [V] and Star TV – both operated by News Corp. – will create and produce videos for the songs voted most popular by users and Chinese music professionals.
News Corp. has been working hard to tap the potential of the Chinese market which is tightly regulated, led by Rupert Murdoch’s wife, Wendi Deng, who is Chinese.
Earlier this month News Corp. announced it intends to bring its MySpace.com service to mobiles in Japan. There are also, according to reports, rumours that News Corp. is interested in buying wireless service providers in China.
