Michael Lai, CEO of Malaysian WiMAX operator Packet One networks (P1), has revealed the company’s new strategic plan for launching fibre broadband and LTE services.
Dubbed ‘P1 2.0 Evolution Plan’, the scheme involves investments of MYR1bn ($ 327m) over the next three years, with MYR 250m to be invested in 2012.
The fibre network will be initially rolled out in the Klang Valley, while the TD-LTE upgrades should be completed by the middle of next year.
P1 currently has 400,000 subscribers, and Mr. Lai stated that he hopes to reach 750,000 subscribers by the end of 2013 and 1mn by 2015.
The company signed an agreement with Telekom Malaysia last October whereby the latter company provides P1 with access and transmission services over the country’s fibre-based High Speed Broadband (HSBB) network.
