Swedish equipment vendor Ericsson has licensed its U310 triple band WCDMA mobile platform to Compal Communications, a Taiwanese manufacturer.

The U310 platform is Ericsson’s WCDMA/EDGE/GPRS platform designed for mass market deployment. It incorporates a flexible quad band EDGE and triple band WCDMA radio, allowing for smaller 3G devices.

Stephen Chen, executive vice president of Compal, said: “We are very pleased with the mobile platforms from Ericsson. With the U310 we can further develop the 3G mobile device to include even more advanced features while maintaining very compact size and high performance. This will help us to provide cost-competitive products to our customers that can be released quickly to the market.”
