Operator group Deutsche Telekom has confirmed that it will cut 1,200 jobs across the German operation of its 68,000-strong workforce in the country. The cuts come as the German operator has been undergoing a permanent process of restructuring, re-staffing and job cuts.

“We will offer the employees personal talks to find a job in another operational unit within the Group, which is of course on a voluntary basis,” a spokesperson told Telecoms.com.

The firm added that if it is forced to make employees redundant, Deutsche Telekom will offer redundancies or early-retirement assistance.

The operator will begin talks with employees concerned next week.

In November 2012, Deutsche Telekom announced a €6.9bn Q3 loss across its group operations. Despite seeing flat revenues year on year, the loss was attributable to charges incurred by T-Mobile USA.

The firm was forced to make an accounting writedown €7.4bn resulting from the merger of its US operations with MetroPCS. It recorded a net profit of €1.07bn in the same period last year and group revenue stood at €14.7bn for the quarter.
