Korean electronics giant, Samsung said on Monday that it has passed all the requirements to sell mobile 3G handsets in China.China has been developing its own 3G technology, Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA) despite widespread concern that it is inferior to other 3G standards. Today’s TD-SCDMA in China has been under development by a group of Chinese companies for several years.

TD-SCDMA was developed so the country’s operators will be able to avoid paying billions of pounds of royalties to foreign companies.

3G licences using TD-SCDMA are expected later this year but it is widely believed that China will offer licences for alternatives such as CDMA-2000 and WCDMA in due course.
