Reports in the Indian press suggest Cable and Wireless is looking to enter the market there and wants to provide telecom services in the country.

According to the Economic Times, the company’s Jim Marsh, chief executive for Europe, US and Asia, the firm is working hard to realise its ambition and is evaluating the opportunity.

Marsh is quoted by the Indian business daily as saying: “We know India is important for our customers as all our major customers either have operations here or are moving operations here. Good use of India will enable us to give better services to them.”

Apart from its corporate business, C&W will invest a further £15m in India and is believed to be in discussion with India’s Bharti Airtel, Reliance Communications and Videsh Sanchar Nigam to give them access to its networks.
