An additional 1.3 million Australian households are being added to the country’s ambitious National Broadband Network, bringing the total number of premises where NBN construction will commence or be complete by June 2016 to more than 4.8 million.

The country’s Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Stephen Conroy, has released an updated three-year rollout plan for the NBN, stating that he and his party (up for re-election in September) “believe all Australian households deserve access to the NBN’s fast, reliable and affordable broadband”.

According to Senator Conroy, there are already over 50,000 Australians using the NBN today, with NBN fibre construction commenced or completed for almost 1mn homes, businesses, schools and hospitals in over 80 communities across the country.
