Mobile payment and payment gateway platform developer Charge Anywhere, has unveiled an Android app that will allow businesses to process credit and debit cards using only a handset. The application turns Google’s Nexus-S smartphone into an NFC payment acceptance terminal.
Products offered by Square and Device Fidelity allow phones to be transformed into readers using an add-on accessory but Charge Anywhere claims its application eliminates the need for anything other than the downloading of its application to the device.
To date, much of the focus of NFC technology has revolved around using the phone as a mobile wallet to pay for goods and services. Increasingly, developers are looking at using phones to receive payments without the need for peripheral technology. According to Charge Anywhere, the application will allow businesses and merchants to accept NFC payments anywhere using the Nexus S handset.
